Balenciaga
The Challenge
In the beginning of 2006 the luxury fashion brand Balenciaga had a terribly boring and dull website that failed in communicating the quality and reputation of the world renown fashion house. In an attempt to win over the contract and redesign their existing website, Toshiedo designed a stunning Flash website showcasing the Balenciaga collections of the past 4 years. Design a website worthy of a brand internationally renown for fashion and design, that compliments and provides easy access to the evolving style and haute couture of a brand that sets the standard in fashion.
The Solution
In designing the site, Toshiedo’s strategy was to let the imagery speak for itself, to build an interface that was smooth, clean and smart in its execution. Every measure was taken to avoid frustrating download times and static transitions. Flash was used to avoid HTML page refreshes, the interface and navigation system were developed to allow seamless navigation between seasons, a loading device was designed to preload and cache images when the user was inactive and mathematical scaling and easing equations were written to animate transitions between web pages. Upon entering the website you immediately get a feeling of quality and luxury. The interface is elegant and smooth yet easy to use, and doesn’t detract at all from the fashion itself. Every rollover and click is rewarded with a reveal or transition tempting the user to continue moving through the website.
The Result
The website pitch was unsuccessful and the project was never made live but it’s a great example of the type of work Toshiedo is capable of doing.
